Purpose: This section will assist in determining whether an individual is eligible for benefits based on Temporary Absence.

POL M605: DETERMINING BASIC ELIGIBILITY – TEMPORARY ABSENCE
1. Applicants Must Meet Temporary Absence Criteria
Applicants meet the criteria for Temporary Absence when both of the following conditions are met:
· Applicant leaves the State for an indefinite period of time.
· Applicant intends to return to Wyoming when the purpose of the absence has been accomplished.
Consider the applicant continuing to reside in their assistance unit and continuing to receive benefits if the above conditions are met.
2. Nursing Home Clients May Be Absent Up To 14 Days In A Year
Clients meet the temporary absence requirement when they are absent up to 14 days in a year. Medicaid will pay room and board for the 14-day period.
If clients exceed the 14-day temporary absence period:
· Clients must pay privately for room and board expenses.
· Medical assistance is not terminated.
